John Candeleria… Pitched for 19 years in the majors while wearing the uniforms of the Pirates, Angels, Mets, Yankees, Expos, Twins, Blue Jays and Dodgers. His finest season was 1977 when he went 20-5 with a 2.34 ERA, lead the NL in ERA and made the All-Star team for the only time in his career.
‘Round here, folks call me: The Candy Man.
In 1976, Candelaria… went 16-7 for the 2nd place Pirates.
Betcha didn’t know… Candelaria was the 1988 AL Comeback Player Of The Year by going 10-2, 2.55 with the Angels.
Pointless Observation: If you look at the knob of the bat, it’s got “22” written on it… Looks like he borrowed Richie Zisk’s bat for the photo.
CandelAria! (Favorite Songs Of 1976):
It seems appropriate to end a post about Caldelaria with ELO’s “Rockaria!”
