2024 Baseball’s Best Relievers And Supersubs #11

For those who missed the previous posts, the general conceit of this series is that I’m making my own custom box set in the 1980’s Fleer style and each weekend I will feature a custom card of one of “Baseball’s Best Relievers” and another custom featuring one of “Baseball’s Best Supersubs”.

Our reliever of the week is the Dodgers’ Ryan Brasier.  Last year he was among the best in the Majors with a 0.70 ERA and 0.724 WHIP over 39 appearances and 38.2 innings pitched.  The Dodgers thought so much of Brasier that they signed him to a two-year deal this past February.

Brasier appeared in 2021 Topps but has not had a card of any kind since 2021.

The Blue Jays’ Isiah Kiner-Falefa is our Supersub for the week. Last season with the Yankees he was predominantly an outfielder and 3rd baseman, but he put in single appearances at 2nd and shortstop, plus he pitched in four games.  This year with the Jays he’s been used mainly at 2nd and 3rd and has pitched in two more games.

IKF won a Gold Glove at 3rd base in 2020 and the only position he has not played in the Majors is at 1st base.

  1. Thanks for highlighting Kiner-Falefa. Just took a closer look at his numbers and learned a few things:

    1. It’s a small sample size, but he pitched well for the Yankees.
    2. He’s a second cousin of Ralph Kiner.
    3. He’s part Japanese.
